Dr. Deepak B. Phatak

Speaker Bio:

Dr Deepak B. Phatak, Professor at IIT Bombay, has been working with the Institute since 1971. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from SGSITS Indore in 1969, and his M Tech and Ph.D. from IIT Bombay. He headed the CSE department from 1991 to 1994. He was the first Dean of Resources of the Institute from 1995 to 1998. He was the founding head of the Kanwal Rekhi School of IT from 1998 to 2002. He held the Subrao Nilekani chair from 2003 to 2013. He retired in 2018, and is currently Professor Emeritus at the Institute.

He is known for his notable work for upgrading the Aakash tablet, for introducing Smart cards in Indian Payment systems, for initiating business incubation to encourage start-ups, for conducting large scale teacher training programs, for developing the IITBombayX MOOC platform, and for advocating blended MOOCs. He has been an IT advisor to financial and industrial organisations and has been a member of several boards, which include organizations such as RBI, SBI, UTI, HDFC AMC, etc.

Dr. Phatak is recipient of the ‘Excellence in Teaching’ award and the ‘Industrial Impact Research Award’ from IIT Bombay. He was conferred ‘Life Time Achievement Awards’ by Skoch foundation in 2003, by Data-Quest in 2008, by Dewang Mehta Business School Awards in 2010, by Interop in 2014, by IIT Bombay in 2014, and by CSI in 2018. He was listed among fifty most influential Indians, by Business week in 2009.

The President of India honored Dr. Deepak Phatak with Padma Shri (2013) in recognition of his exemplary services in Science and Technology.

Dr. Phatak strongly believes that teaching cannot be just a profession, but has to be one’s Dharma. His dream is to see a resurgent India, catching up with the world and eventually leading the world.

R. Muralidharan, Fellow Indian National Academy of Engineering and Life Senior Member IEEE, is a Systems Engineering professional for 43 years and is currently CTO at Tata Advanced Systems Ltd., Mumbai, India. At TASL, he is responsible for Technology of mission critical real time solutions for Indian Defense. He is a1979 batch post graduate in Electrical Engineering (Computers) from IIT Bombay, India. In 1987, the then Indian Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi had invited him to be a member of the Distinguished Young Scientists team.

Mr. Muralidharan, an IEEE volunteer for 45 years, is a Past chair of IEEE India Council and Bombay Section, Was Member of Board of Governors, Engineering Council of India, 2003-04. He was an IEEE ComSoc Standards board member during 2008 to 2010. He was also an IEEE Computer Society distinguished lecturer for 3 years. Muralidharan was Vice Chair of the Wireless Innovation Forum (SDR Forum V2.0) for 5 years and has been actively involved with the Forum for the last 10 years. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Forum. Last year, his research paper, co-authored with Vincent Kovarik titled ” AI Enabled Design Agent for Software Engineering” was accepted for presentation at American-CSE’s The 19th International Conference on Software Engineering Research & Practice (SERP’21: July 26-29, 2021, USA) and publication in SPRINGER NATURE – Research Book Series: Transactions on Computational Science & Computational Intelligence.

The paper “Performance Optimization of Deep Space Communication Network using Embedded ML/DL” co authored with Prof. DR Vaman has been accepted fpr presentation at IEEE WiSEE’22 TENSYMP 2022 International Advisory committee member.and Speaker at LMAG Track in Tensymp22. Speaker at Student track at Region 10 SYWL 2022.

Dr. Puneet Agarwal

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Puneet Agarwal is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Style by Vida, a fashion-Tech start-up. Puneet also serves as Head of ZenLabs, the applied research center of Zensar technologies Ltd., before this he worked as CTO of Zensar Technologies and as a Principal Scientist in TCS research.

Dr. Agarwal has worked in the IT Services industry for 24+ years, and has extensive exposure to many verticals such as: BFSI, Consumer Services, Hi-Tech & Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Governments, Utilities, Shipping and Logistics, Telecom etc.

He has published 50+ research papers in IEEE, ACM affiliated conferences, in the area of Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Knowledge Graphs, Time-Series, and Software Engineering. He has also filed 30+ unique patents. He has served on the program committee of reputed conferences such as ACM-KDD in the recent past.

He has a Ph.D. degree from IIT Delhi, in the area of Knowledge graphs, Natural Language Processing, Distributed Parallel Processing, and Deep Learning, and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Trichy.

Dr. Anirban Bandyopadhya

PhD, IEEE Fellow, Senior Director & Head of Strategic Applications, GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Anirban Bandyopadhyay is the Senior Director and Head of Strategic Applications within the Mobility & Wireless Infrastructure Business Unit of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, USA. His work is currently focused on hardware architecture & technology evaluations for emerging RF and MMWave applications.

 

Prior to joining GLOBALFOUNDRIES, he was with IBM Microelectronics and with Intel where he worked on different areas like RF Design Enablement, Silicon Photonics, signal integrity in RF & Mixed signal SOC’s. Dr. Bandyopadhyay represents Globalfoundries in different industry consortia and alliances on RF/mmwave applications and is an IEEE Fellow and a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Electron Devices Society.

Dr. Tarun Sen

Speaker Bio:

Tarun K. Sen, is Managing Director of the Post Graduate Program in Business Analytics (PGPBA) and Professor Emeritus of Accounting and Information Systems at Virginia Tech. Since September of 2017, as Managing Director PGPBA (under the Office of Outreach and International Affairs), he has led several programs in the US and in India. Along with NMIMS in Mumbai India, he recently led the development of an MTech. program in Data Science that is being offered in Mumbai. 

He leads the design and development of programs of various durations in data analytics programs that are currently being offered in Chennai, Mumbai, and Newport News Va. Sen joined Virginia Tech in 1985 and spent 25 years as a Professor and Associate Dean responsible for the Pamplin College of Business’ Graduate, MBA, and International Programs. He taught in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, the Northern Capital Region MBA program, and the fully online Masters of Information Technology (MIT) program. He led the successful launching of Pamplin’s first executive MBA program in the Washington, D.C. area, the MIT program in India, and the professional MBA program offered in various locations in the Commonwealth of Virginia. During his tenure, the Pamplin MBA program was ranked 35 in the USA by Financial Times and the Pamplin College of Business had over 350 students in study abroad programs across the globe.

His passion for programs in data analytics comes from his long association with research and education in the applications of analytical and data models to address business problems. Sen was active in funded research and published in leading journals, including Management Science, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Decision Support Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. He has been on the editorial review board of the Journal of Information Systems and has participated in several National Science Foundation SBIR review panels. While in academia at Virginia Tech he developed various data driven analytics systems including a contamination management system for the US Department of Energy, a performance management system for Virginia Department of Social Services, and a graph-based model management system for g mathematical models for a broad spectrum of business applications. He has over 30 publications, presented at over 25 national and international conferences, workshops and forums, has been a member of over 30 university and international committees, developed and taught 15 courses in the applications of data and analytical models to business problems. He has supervised several doctoral students during his academic career.

In 2002 Sen co-founded Entigence Corporation, a business intelligence consulting company in the Washington DC area and Bangalore. Entigence Corporation is a professional services company focused on providing data analytics strategies and solutions to higher educational institutions and industry. He continues to advise on new data analytics initiatives at Entigence Corporation. His current research includes the implementation challenges of university faculty systems and machine learning applications in industry.

He has a Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of Iowa, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore, India, and an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, India.

Hitesh Mehta

Speaker Bio:

Mr Hitesh Mehta is the co-founder of  Fiber Optika Technologies Pvt Ltd and Managing Director of Eagle Photonics, a company working in area of telecom services. He has 27 years of experience in Fiber Optic communication & Telecom  industry, ranging from Production, R&D, Business Development, Project Management and consultancy. Hitesh Mehta received his M.Tech degree from IIT-Delhi in the year 1995. He started his career with Optel Telecommunication & later during his tenure at TVS he established Nortel Network’s Component Division, Virtual Photonics and Lightwave Micro’s photonics business. He Co-founded Eagle Photonics in 2002 and Fiber optika Technologies in 2008. Eagle Photonics has created its own space in area of telecom system integration and training.

Hitesh Mehta is past Chairman of IEEE Bangalore Section. He served as Coordinator for continuing education program for working professional (PROFICIENCE) at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for 4 years. Hitesh Mehta received DST- Lockheed Martin Gold Medal for Innovation,Alexender Graham bell Award for innovation,  Economic Times-Power of Ideas award. He has filed 12 Domestic and International patents. He is fellow of IETE, Senior member of IEEE and member of Communication and Photonics society of IEEE.

He was Head of Centre of Excellence at NEC India for 5.5 years and responsible for the development, testing, optimize benchmark layers 1, 2 and 3 solutions for 3G and 4G mobile backhaul networks for Mobile Phone Service Providers.

Dr. Faruk Kazi

Dr Faruk Kazi received his Ph.D. degree from IIT Bombay in 2009. He is currently working as Professor & Dean of Research & Development at VJTI, Mumbai. He is a senior member of IEEE and is a recipient of AICTE-VISVESVARAYA Best Teacher National Award-2020. He is listed on “Schneider Electric Wall of Thanks-2021” for helping in securing Schneider Electric products.
 

He has extensively worked in the areas of digital architecture and cyber security of critical energy infrastructure. He has contributed in developing the resilience framework for smart grid cyber security. ICS-CERT & OEMs have released around 40 CVEs and worldwide advisories based on vulnerabilities identified by his research team. He has published more than 100 research papers in IEEE Journals & Conferences in the domain of smart grid, cyber-physical systems and critical infrastructure. He was an expert member in the team which investigated the Mumbai Grid failure incident of 12 October 2020.

He has worked as a visiting research scholar at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, Switzerland.

He has developed a research test-bed for the cyber security studies of critical energy infrastructure with in-kind support from industries like Siemens, Emerson, L &T (Electrical & Automation), Schneider Electric L & T Infotech, Claroty, and CISCO.
